at the moment i give streamwriter a try. Atm i think it is the best what i have ever seen.
BUT, why I can not save streams with the title of the stream which is different and the better description of the file - the streamname never changes and is always the name of the radio.
The Streamname of my (electro set) radios is always the same. The titles of the (long) tracks (sets) change every our or so. This (title) information I would like so use in my filenames.
Otherwise I will get many files with "neverChangingStreamName (1).mp3", "…(2).mp3" and so on. That is useless ;( unfortunately.
Streamripper for Winamp splits every set while it name the files by its title.
By the way, whats for streamwriter the difference of tracks and streams? Every Streamradio change its contents periodicaly and also change the title. Some do this every ~3 min other after maybe 60 min.
The other question is how streamwriter decides what is a track and what is a stream!?
sry for my bad english but i think in english there are more people with me ;)
thx 4 your great work

That depends on your settings concerning filenames. You find that under File –-> Settings –-> Filenames. The default setting should be "%s\%a - %t" (without the quotation marks, of course) and should be suitable for you. It means that a directory is created for each stream and that the file itself is named "Artist - (Song-)Title".
To put such information into the id3-tags you should set the variables under File –-> Settings –-> Postprocessing accordingly.

A track is the song(-title) itself and the stream is the name of the radiostation.
Hope that helps!
Kind regards!
Edit: Well, that is the easy way to describe/explain it. To be a little bit more precise/technically:
Imagine a radiostation sending audio data (the stream) together with the song and artist information (but that only once) continously. Normally streamwriter would cut that stream into a new track (song) when it receives a new information about a new song/artist. But that mostly isn't the physical end of the old song/beginning of the new song. Therefore streamwriter searches for sillence (if option in according setting is ticked) and makes the cut there. You can move that cut forward/backward (passively) if there's no sillence to be found by ticking another option in the settings defining the milliseconds to move the cut forward/backward.
You can find more information about that in the wiki.

Allthough a title is send streamwriter does not use it to name the file :( Furthermore is there an hint "pattern for filenames of stream files (only %s, %d and %i are valid)" - that is my problem I think
Could it be that if I start the record during an already playing song / track / set the first (uncomplete) file get the streamname and with the next title change the desired pattern with %t in it will used?
further setting which matter eventually |

Aaahhh, now I can see what your problem is:
The settings I have described above (with %s, %a and %t) normally should work. But here with this special radiostation stream the problem is, that the song informations (pattern) are not sent in the typical manner (Artist - Title). This radiostation only sends the title. Or is it different from time to time?
If it's allways the same then you should change the pattern for filenames of completely and uncompletely recorded tracks to "%s\%t" by right-clicking on the stream in the record window and changing the stream-specific settings there.
If it's different from time to time nothing can be done but taking the whole stream-file (that you've set to also be recorded and saved to HDD and that you've found there - the file with only the streamname) and cutting separated tracks from there using another software. The disadvantage is that you then haven't got the id3-tags for the separated tracks.

No, that has nothing to do with it. It's the problem I've described above (the one, that only the title is sent by that radiostation or the pattern is being varied).
I hope that your problem is solved now.

Now the station send it in the seemingly needed "%a - %t" - manner. the result is …
Why can not (simple) use streamwriter the current send title of the stream to name the files and use it to determine the splits of the tracks / sets when the station change it? I dont understand that *headscratchin*
Now I will try %u (= title on stream) and some other variables …

You have to use %u (= title on stream) if you have similar phenomena like me.

%s\COMPLETE\%s ~ %a ~ %t ~ %u ~ %d ~ %i %s\NOTCOMPLETE\%s ~ %a ~ %t ~ %u ~ %d ~ %i %s\AUTO\%s ~ %a ~ %t ~ %u ~ %d ~ %i %s\STREAM_TMP ~ %d ~ %i
If there are any problems with any streams you will ever get all of the possible information. Afterwards you can split the names with tools like mp3tag. The ~ is rarely used and therefore can used to seperate the filenames.
On reliable stream stations where you ever get the needed information for your ripped streams you can adjust the above default pattern separately.
BTW: It would be great to integrate a furter tab with the most needed features from tools like MP3TAG. Record, Cut and organising titles & tags - that would THE PERFECT TOOL :) |
