Hello,

I recently upgraded to the current version. Since then, StreamWriter is consuming between 60kb/s and 70kb/s, with no obvious downloads or other activity. Any ideas or suggestions ?

For example, I left the software running while away on business, and it soon consumed all of my monthly 25Gbytes of internet access !

CHeers,

Hi!

This is because the option "Enable monitor mode" in the category "Community" that is available under "Settings…" in the main menu is checked. When upgrading to the newest version streamWriter should have displayed a message telling you of this thing.
I'm sorry if this caused you problems:-(

Hello Alex,

Many thanks for your quick reply. I've been away for 4 weeks after Christmas, and have logged on to read your reply. No harm done { I was away when my ADSL bandwidth was throttled back !! }, and you were absolutely right with this setting. I've observed the bandwidth with it ON and OFF to confirm.

When I was troubleshooring this, I did check settings, and saw nothing under 'Bandwidth', which is where I would have expected to see such a setting. I didn't notice it in 'Community'. Perhaps in the next release, move (or duplicate) this setting to the 'Bandwidth' area ?

Thanks again,

Hi,

nice to hear everything is okay now!

When I was troubleshooring this, I did check settings, and saw nothing under 'Bandwidth', which is where I would have expected to see such a setting. I didn't notice it in 'Community'. Perhaps in the next release, move (or duplicate) this setting to the 'Bandwidth' area ?

I understand that it is confusing that this option is not under bandwidth, because it consumes bandwidth. On the other hand, the "Bandwidth" category is only for limiting bandwidth, and doing so for the streams to monitor is hard and therefor not on my TODO-list. To address this issue, I will put some informational text in the bandwidth category so everybody knows that a function under community may consume bandwith, too.

Kind regards,

Alex
